Walrus Foundation Gala

From Saturday's Globe and Mail
What do Mordecai Richler's tweed writing jacket, Pierre Elliott Trudeau's childhood boxing gloves and Alice Munro's costume Elizabeth Taylor wig have in common? All were donated items in the quirky silent auction at the third annual Walrus Foundation Gala which raised $249,000 for the non-profit magazine and its internship program. The goodies didn’t stop there - for $50, guests could purchase a key and try their luck at unlocking one of three high stakes raffle prizes which included a $20,000-value trip for two to the Scottish Isles. The real honour of the evening, however, was the appreciatory lapel pins gifted to each guest, inviting them into the prestigious Order of The Walrus - a must-wear status symbol for any fearless, witty, and thoughtful Canadian, indeed.
