Two Quebec judges have been sidelined pending investigations of their conduct.
The Canadian Judicial Council says it is investigating allegations Quebec Superior Court Justice Michel Girouard bought an illicit substance from a police informant before he was named to the bench.
The inquiry was requested by Quebec Superior Court Chief Justice François Rolland.
Also, a statement from Quebec court says Judge Marc Grimard will not handle any new cases pending a review of his conduct before he was named a magistrate.
A statement from Elizabeth Corte, chief judge of Quebec court, says the allegations against him are being taken seriously but she did not go into detail about any offence.
No charges have been laid.
Both judges sit in the Abitibi-Temiscamingue region where a large drug sweep resulting in 100 arrests took place in 2010.
Mr. Girouard, who previously worked as a lawyer, was appointed to the bench in September 2010, while Mr. Grimard has been a judge since 2004. He previously served as a Crown prosecutor.
