Two rescued from burning pleasure boat in Newfoundland bay Add to ...

Two people were rescued from their burning boat in Newfoundland waters late Thursday afternoon.

Officials say a 14-metre pleasure craft issued a mayday after fire broke out on board the Labrador Freedom in Trinity Bay.

Several local vessels and the coast guard responded to the site, while another pleasure craft picked up the endangered pair.

They were taken to nearby Dildo, but their vessel burned and sank.

The coast guard was assessing the scene to see if the boat had becoeme a hazard to shipping.
