A woman and a baby boy are dead after an overnight house fire in Regina.

Firefighters were called to the scene just east of the downtown around 1:45 a.m. Emergency authorities say a passerby saw the flames and pulled the victims from the home.

Gerard Kay, a Regina Fire Department spokesman, says crews worked to resuscitate the pair but they died in hospital. Their names have not been released.

The house was completely destroyed and there's no immediate word on the cause of the fire.
