The Nemiah Valley Rodeo was founded by the Xeni Gwet’in band of the Chilcotan nation. It takes place every B.C. Day weekend in the province’s central interior, about three hours from Williams Lake. The highlight of the event, now in its 35th year, is the mountain race, which sees riders barrel down the side of a mountain, through rocky terrain, around sharp turns and through creeks and beaver dams. It takes riders about 20 minutes to get up the hill and 90 seconds to get down.
