The federal and Ontario governments are injecting up to $500-million into the province's GO Transit system as part of a plan to help kick start the ailing economy.

"This investment will create jobs for local construction workers in communities throughout Southern Ontario," Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Tuesday.

He was joined by Premier Dalton McGuinty at a GO maintenance yard in Etobicoke.

The investment in twelve GO stations, from Mississauga west of Toronto to Markham in the east, will improve access to parking as well as upgrade rail lines to improve reliability.

"We're looking to make Ontario a place where gridlock doesn't hold you back," Mr. McGuinty said.
