Premier Jean Charest has named a former cabinet minister who quit provincial politics as Quebec's new justice minister.
Jean-Marc Fournier, who until this week was working as an adviser to federal Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff, will replace Kathleen Weil.
Mr. Fournier, who does not have a seat in the legislature, has to win a by-election in a Montreal-area riding.
Ms. Weil was moved to the immigration portfolio.
The shuffle follows the resignation this week of Public Security Minister Jacques Dupuis, who announced he was quitting politics for personal reasons.
Mr. Fournier has said he will run in the by-election in Mr. Dupuis' former Montreal-area riding but no date has been set for the vote yet.
Mr. Charest, who has been under increasing pressure from opposition calls for an inquiry into the Quebec construction industry, moved several current cabinet ministers around and brought in some new faces to freshen up his front bench.
The premier, who has seen the popularity of his government slide, has also been fighting allegations from a former cabinet minister that there was political interference in the appointment of judges.
