Prime Minister Stephen Harper (File)The Canadian Press

Stephen Harper is moving back to Calgary after the Conservative Party's defeat in the 2015 federal election, returning to his hometown with his wife Laureen and daughter Rachel.

A Conservative Party source says Ben Harper, the Prime Minister's son, will remain in Ontario where he is attending Queen's University in Kingston.

The Harpers have a family home in Calgary and Mr. Harper will live there when not in Ottawa. The family is moving out of 24 Sussex Dr.

Mr. Harper remains Prime Minister until next week when Justin Trudeau takes over. The Liberal government's cabinet will be sworn in Nov. 4.

Mr. Harper has resigned as Conservative Party Leader and the parliamentary Tory caucus meets on Nov. 5 to pick an interim leader. Those in the running for this caretaker job include Ontario MPs Diane Finley, Erin O'Toole, Rob Nicholson as well as Manitoba MP Candice Bergen.

Mr. Harper remains MP for the riding of Calgary Heritage although it's uncertain whether he will serve out his term in this post.

The Liberals won a majority government on Oct. 19, reducing the governing Tories to Official Opposition status, with 99 out of 338 seats.
