There are many ways a prime minister might leave a legacy, like a major policy achievement or piece of public infrastructure.
And there are more subtle ways to make a mark – such as Stephen Harper's Beatles mug.
The mug featuring the Fab Four will be immortalized in Google Canada's Street View mapping of Parliament Hill on Tuesday, which includes taking panoramic photos of the Prime Minister's Office, the House of Commons, the Senate and the Library of Parliament.
Mr. Harper famously performed The Beatles' With A Little Help From My Friends on the piano at the National Arts Centre in 2009. The Beatles' mug also made a cameo when his office tweeted about a "#dayinthelife" of the Prime Minister.
Mr. Harper's full name will be visible on a certificate hanging on the wall – next to a portrait of John A. Macdonald – that he received from Elections Canada for being re-elected Calgary Southwest's MP in 2011.
A photo of the Prime Minister's wife, Laureen Harper, is also visible on his desk.
Other prime ministers will be captured in Google's photos, thanks to their official portraits in the halls.
Google Canada had to get permission from the offices of the Prime Minister, Speaker of the House of Commons, Speaker of the Senate and Library of Parliament to take their photos.
A Google spokesman said the plan was to preserve the old Parliament buildings in photos before renovation is slated to begin in 2018. There are no plans to take any more photos of the inside of the Parliament buildings before then.
