Michael Ignatieff met with Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, in Ottawa today, but the Opposition Leader's Office won't say whether Mr. Ignatieff's views on the monarchy came up.
"It was a private courtesy call," said spokesman Michael O'Shaugnessy, who insists protocol dictates that no details be revealed.
There were no such concerns regarding protocol in February, when Mr. Ignatieff spoke in detail about his 30 minute meeting at the Ottawa Airport when U.S. President Barack Obama was in town.
The royal couple are now off to Montreal, after meeting this morning in Ottawa with the Governor-General Michaëlle Jean and Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
The Prime Minister announced that the government will contribute $250,000 to the Military Families Fund on behalf of the Royal couple, in lieu of a customary gift.
The fund was created in 2007 to help military families deal with "unforeseen and often immediate needs that have resulted from conditions of service."
