The Canadian Forces on Thursday released their first picture of accused Sub-Lieutenant Jeffrey Paul Delisle. It's a photo from the 2008-09 yearbook at Royal Military College, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in 2010.
The naval intelligence officer doesn't have an official deployment headshot picture, they say, because he was never deployed overseas.
SLt. Delisle, 40, was charged on Monday with passing government secrets to foreign interests, under Canada's Security of Information Act. He's also been charged with criminal breach of trust, and is in custody in Halifax.
The sailor has not entered a plea, and has not yet appeared in court. He is expected to appear for a bail hearing on Jan. 25.
StLt. Delisle's most recent posting was at the HMCS Trinity communications centre in Halifax, an ultra-secure nerve centre for Canadian intelligence.
Sources say he first worked at Trinity from 2001 to 2005 and then transferred to the Chief of Defence Intelligence group in Ottawa in 2006. He spent 2007 at the Strategic Joint Staff offices, also in Ottawa, before moving to Kingston to begin his studies at the Royal Military College. According to his Myspace profile page, SLt. Delisle studied political science.
SLt. Delisle later moved to the Canadian Forces Joint Headquarters, also in Kingston, before returning to Halifax in 2010, ending up back at Trinity.
