Salary tracker: Explore the earnings of First Nations chiefs across Canada Add to ...

On July 29, the federal government’s First Nations Financial Transparency Act came into effect.

It requires all First Nations across Canada to disclose their annual financial reports.

We’ve combed through the documents to give you a clearer picture of how much money chiefs and councillors are making. You can search the table by band, chief, earnings, province and more.

Our conclusion? Most are very reasonable: the median chief salary is $64,716. But there are outliers, including Kwikwetlem chief Ron Giesbricht, who made $914,219 and sits at the top of the list.

The numbers below are based on all reports posted to the government site by Aug. 3. As of Aug. 12, 250 of roughly 600 financial reports had been added. We’ll continue to update as documents are posted.
