Sometimes politicians do the absolute right thing and step above the hurly burly of politics to act like leaders when we most need them to be.

From VOCM today:

The community, and indeed the country, will come together tonight to remember and pay tribute to the 17 people who lost their lives aboard Cougar Flight 491. Ezra Chaplaincy Services, which provides spiritual services for the offshore oil sector, and the local council of churches, will gather tonight in an ecumenical service. A number of choirs and representatives from all levels of government will be in attendance including Lieutenant Governor John Crosbie, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Regional Representative Peter MacKay, Senator Fabian Manning, Premier Danny Williams and others who  will come together in mourning. Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff is offering his condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of those who lost their lives in the Cougar helicopter crash. Ignatieff says while he won't be able to attend this evening's ecumenical service at the Basilica in St. John's, Liberal MP's Justin Trudeau and Marc Garneau will be accompanying members of the Newfoundland and Labrador Liberal Caucus to the province for the event.
