As of Tuesday, Aug. 18th at call it 2:15, the federal NDP have the following press release dated Aug. 15th up on the French version of their website. The release is about extending French language "protection" to federally regulated workplaces in Quebec. While I disagree with the policy, it is certainly a legitimate position to take (the Bloc have been pushing a similar private members bill for months now). There is a nice quote from Thomas Mulcair saying that this will make the Quebec nation resolution "real."
Here's the thing, go to the English version of their website. Go to the list of press releases. Look between the releases about FedNor and the Obama ground game (ie - the spot on the French site where the anti-bilingualism release was put out). Every other release as far as I can tell in English is an identical translation to the French version. The release about overriding official bilingualism in Quebec workplaces?
It's nowhere to be seen.
There is zero chance that this is a simple mistake or technical glitch. No way. They tried to put out one message in French and hope nobody else noticed in English.
I guess there are some lessons from Obama - like having a consistent, national message, that the NDP haven't quite gotten their heads around yet.
