Toronto political tongues are wagging on a Tuesday night with speculation that Mayor David Miller is about to accept an international appointment - likely from the United Nations - and resign prior to the end of his second term.

Given that both the front-runner George Smitherman and his insurgent challenger Rocco Rossi are essentially running on Costanza-like "do the opposite of Miller" platforms, it will be interesting if any candidate is willing and/or able to step up and defend the last six-plus years of city governance.

Start holding your breath... now.

In my heart, I hope Miller is declaring he is back in the race to defend his record.

In my head, I know that he's declaring the opposite on Wednesday.
