There is a reason Sid Ryan never got elected as an NDP Member of Parliament - his reactionary, ill-thought out and shoot from the lip style has seen its day.
But what he is now advocating on behalf of the Canadian Union of Public Employees concerning the banning of Israeli professors from university campuses is absurd to be polite, and a form of racial extremism to be direct.
Sid, you unfortunately are getting the attention you want because we are talking about you. But again, for the wrong reasons.
As someone who teaches at a university, who believes in free speech, supports Israel and its actions but recognizes the complexities of the Middle East, I find CUPE's actions offensive, inflammatory and stupid. What do they achieve other than to breed further anger, resentment and stoke the flames of hatred? This from one of Canada's supposed leading labour groups; a group that is supposed to fight for rights.
Jack Layton, I hope you have the guts to slam Ryan and CUPE for this dangerous dialogue. Wise members of CUPE, I hope you say no to Sid.Report Typo/Error
