Perusing the papers this morning, I read here and here some rather unflattering comparisons of Prime Minister Harper’s performance in Copenhagen with that of President Obama. Also in the Globe, however, I read Professor Jeffrey Sach’s scathing review of the agreement his President hatched in Copenhagen, a view shared by a Washington Post columnist and by a Canadian writing in the Guardian .
By far the most interesting view, however, is that of George Monbiot. As Andrew Cohen reminds us in today’s Ottawa Citizen , he’s the chap who, before Copenhagen, wrote: “Until now I had believed that the nation that has done the most to sabotage a new climate change agreement was the United States. I was wrong. The real villain is Canada.” Well, based on in his column in today’s Guardian , it seems he’s changed his mind again: “The immediate reason for the failure of the talks can be summarised in two words: Barack Obama.”
