Saying that there's no such thing as a good tax is not the same as saying that all taxes should be eliminated. And it's quite a leap to suggest that Prime Minister Stephen Harper, who expressed the former but not the latter, must be an anarchist or that he holds anarchist views.

Here's why.

Some people believe that a carbon tax is a good tax as it would save the planet. Mr. Harper is not among them, as he made abundantly clear in the last election.

Other people believe the progressive income tax is a good tax as it redistributes income; it would appear that Mr. Harper is not among these folks either.

Both positions are sufficiently controversial as to merit debate, without taxing Mr. Harper with views that he does not necessarily hold - based on what he actually said in his interview with The Globe's Eric Reguly.
