I have taken my no-election tour on the road. Since Thursday night, we have been de-camped in St. John's, NL - my beloved hometown, which is having a classic folk-rock music revival week of sorts during the annual George St. festival.

People here are talking about Blue Rodeo, Stompin' Tom and Dr. Hook, all of whom have performed in recent nights; there's nary a mention of Iggy or Steve, as some in these parts refer to the Prime Minister. Frankly, the wise people of Newfoundland and Labrador are onto something - election sabre-rattling in the summer is for morons.

In this place, where many rough and tumble debates about Employment Insurance have been fought since we joined Canada some 60 years, ago the current potential campaign issue has not been mentioned to me once. In fact, when people venture away from reliving the previous night's adventures and ask the "what is going on in that nuthouse Ottawa" question, a declarative statement leaps out of the interrogator's lips before the opportunity to answer is afforded.

Can you guess what it is? It goes something like this: "We don't need another f---ing election." From the mouths of some Canada's most astute political populous.

Get out of Ottawa, all you election-mongers, and you'll get a sense of where people really are. Stop the madness. Take off those rose-coloured glasses and take in a St. John's Saturday night - your perspective will change dramatically.
