The RCMP has laid charges of uttering threats and mischief in relation to a suspicious package that forced the evacuation of the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday.
In a statement on Thursday, the RCMP said that it has charged 45-year-old Mohamoud Jimale, of Toronto “following an incident involving a suspicious package yesterday at the Langevin Building, 80 Wellington Street, Ottawa.”
The building, which is home to the PMO and sits across the street from Parliament, was evacuated shortly before noon. Wellington Street, the main drag in front of Parliament, was also closed down.
RCMP said the call came between 11:15 a.m. and 11:20 a.m. An Ottawa Police explosives unit arrived on scene soon after.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper was not inside the Langevin Block building at the time.
By 3 p.m. local time, the roads around Langevin Block were re-opened and staff were seen going back into the building.
