CANARIE, Rogers to connect researchers

Globe and Mail Update

CANARIE, Canada's research and education network organization, and Rogers Telecom Inc. (formerly Sprint Canada), a subsidiary of Rogers Communications Inc., have announced a multi-million-dollar contract whereby Rogers Telecom will provide a wide range of network services to support the CA*net 4 network.

The network services will enable CANARIE to continue to expand CA*net 4 connections beyond virtually all of the country's universities and colleges now served, to federal and provincial research labs, schools, hospitals and private sector research facilities.

Rogers Telecom will provide a variety of super-high-speed local access services that will allow innovators to take advantage of the capabilities of the extensive bandwidth of CA*net 4. In addition to building local access facilities, the contract also provides for the construction of new fibre facilities to several sites and the long-term lease and maintenance of various network elements.
