Rogers Communications Inc. has participated in an Intel conference in San Francisco by using a WiMAX-enabled Internet feed from a cottage on Lake Rosseau, Muskoka, two hours north of Toronto. WiMAX allows access to wireless broadband Internet.
The technology was showcased at the Intel Developer Forum, a gathering of 4,000 technology professionals representing 1,400 companies. The WiMAX presentation was led by Sean Maloney of Intel Corporation's Mobility Group.
Also part of the demonstration were an Intel factory in China, a cargo ship in the Netherlands, and a school in Argentina. These locations, along with Canada, combined to demonstrate the ability of WiMAX to facilitate digital cities, support large commercial operations, enable education and help bridge the digital divide.
