VANCOUVER, Nov. 5 — Telus has launched HomeSitter, a unique home-monitoring system based on wireless broadband technology that allows customers to remotely monitor their home or business through a private account via any high-speed Internet connection.
Users can view either real-time streaming video or short video files recorded automatically after a camera's motion sensor detects movement. They can also configure HomeSitter to notify them by wireless phone, pager, or e-mail when a motion sensor detects movement.
HomeSitter uses a wireless router capturing signals from wireless cameras. The system comes with 24-hour technical support.
HomeSitter service is being offered to Telus high-speed Internet customers for $9.95 a month, $14.95 a month otherwise, with all new subscribers receiving the first month free. It requires a high-speed Internet connection as well as a compatible wireless router and wireless network IP camera. Cameras start at $249.95 and are available from Telus.
