The CRTC's hearings into the future of new media regulation in Canada began Tuesday with pleas for funding from cultural groups.
"Broadcasting is broadcasting regardless the distribution platform," argued Alain Pineau, national director of the Canadian Conference of the Arts, saying there should be a "level playing field" between old and new media.
On Wednesday Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission will hear submissions from the Canadian recording industry as well as groups representing authors, musicians and composers. On hand once again to make sense of the proceedings is the Globe and Mail's Technology Reporter Matt Hartley, Media Reporter Grant Robertson and Communities Editor Mathew Ingram.
