PEI's (million dollar) Google juice

Globe and Mail Update

When popular US talk show Regis & Kelly rolled into Charlottetown, fans lined up overnight for the duo's first live show Monday morning. The popular TV program shot four episodes on Prince Edward Island at a government price tag of about one million dollars. Although critics were skeptical about how the morning show would help PEI tourism, if web chatter is any indication of success, the big budget was well spent.

On day one of Regis & Kelly in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island skyrocketed to the number two spot on Google search in the United States. The hosts raved about the province's seafood, scenery, and people. They also tweeted their every move, sharing PEI pics with their thousands of online followers.

While the last show will air on Thursday, I spoke to the PEI Tourism's social media manager James Webster about their plans to extend the online buzz. Check out this video for more from James and a firsthand look at what it took to put the Island on the Internet map.
