Ontario Premier to Tweet

Toronto— The Canadian Press

Premier Dad is finally Tweeting.

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty opened a Twitter account Monday, which his staff say will let him speak directly with residents about what he's up to.

McGuinty racked up more than 470 followers within three hours of sending out his first Tweet.

The premier — who earned the nickname for his “Father Knows Best” policy approach — says he decided to join on the good advice of friends and family.

McGuinty is a latecomer to the political ranks of the Twitterverse.

Both of his opponents — Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak and NDP Leader Andrea Horwath — already Tweet regularly.

Many other premiers have been using the social networking website, including Gordon Campbell, Ed Stelmach, Greg Selinger, Jean Charest, Brad Wall and Shawn Graham.
