Bell Aliant joins ‘social TV’ game with Facebook app

Globe and Mail Update

Internet users in Atlantic Canada will be able to browse Facebook on their televisions, using a new Bell Aliant app that was unveiled Wednesday.

Customers of the company's FibreOP Internet service will be able to see their news feeds, rate and comment television shows that they are watching and also look at their photo albums on their televisions. While “social television” isn't anywhere near the mainstream at this point, the company said it expects web-television integration to accelerate in 2012.

The company said 87.5 per cent of Altlantic Canada's Internet users are on Facebook, compared to 83.3 per cent in the rest of Canada.
