A dozen Toronto homes evacuated after rusty munitions found in backyard Add to ...

Some residents on a Toronto street got a scary wake-up call this morning when one of their neighbours found an old 7.6-centimetre military type shell in their backyard.

About 15 homes were evacuated on Borden Street and the emergency task force was called in after a perimeter was setup as a precaution.

The emergency crew took the shell for disposal and the residents were let back into their homes near College and Bathurst Streets.

It's not known if the device was active.

It was said to look old and rusty.
