Toronto police have charged three men with murder after a 26-year-old man was killed when gunfire erupted during a fight at his former home.

Detective-Sergeant Pauline Gray says Christopher Kotsopoulos was visiting friends at the west-end housing complex where he used to live when an altercation broke out Monday between him and up to five other men in a laneway.

She says several shots were fired “within minutes” of the fight starting, with at least one of the bullets hitting Kotsopoulos in the torso.

Det.-Sgt. Gray says information from housing complex residents fed up with violence in the area helped investigators identify three male suspects, one of whom was arrested during a morning raid.

Police say two more suspects were arrested Friday afternoon without incident after investigators publicly identified them.

Christopher Shaw, 21, Eli Goldman, 23, and Jeffrey Troung, 26 — all from Toronto — are each charged with second-degree murder.

Det.-Sgt. Gray said it was a “miracle” that Kotsopoulos was the only one killed in the altercation.

She said police believe another two men may have participated in the fight.

The slaying has shocked residents in the complex, and many came forward to speak with investigators, Det.-Sgt. Gray said.

“I think they’re tired of this. I think they’re tired of these young men with incredible entitlement and guns... holding them essentially hostage,” she said.

Officers also seized three weapons in the morning raid, though Det.-Sgt. Gray wouldn’t say whether that included the gun used in the shooting.
