It appears thieves are scanning Toronto funeral notices to find break-in targets.

Toronto police say a number of daytime break-ins have take place recently in various neighbourhoods while people were away from home at funerals.

All of those targeted were at funerals of close family members and funeral notifications had been published in a newspaper or online.

Police are advising people to keep their doors and windows locked when away from home, and have someone watch their home while they are away at a funeral service.
