Concrete fell from the Gardiner Expressway for the second time this week, closing down all but two lanes on Parkside Drive near Lake Shore Boulevard West.

The concrete fell around 10 a.m. on Thursday, police said. There were no reports of any injuries or damage.

John Bryson, the city's manager of structures and expressways, said city workers inspected the bridge and chipped away at additional loose concrete later on Thursday. The city plans to have a private consultant come to examine the bridge soon, he added.

On Thursday evening, the provincial and federal NDP called on both levels of government to meet with Toronto city officials and come up with a plan to fix the Gardiner.

"We shouldn't have to wait until there's a death or serious injury before taking action," NDP MP Olivia Chow said in an interview.

She said the city doesn't have the money it needs to do the repairs on its own.

Earlier in the week, a chunk of concrete fell from the expressway onto Lake Shore Boulevard East, close to Jarvis Street.
