An afternoon fire in a Brampton house spread to neighbouring units and left the three homes with severe damage.

Fifty firefighters and 14 trucks were dispatched to a subdivision of detached homes at 12:15 p.m. to contain the fire that started at 76 Beaconsfield Avenue, near Chinguacousy Road and Steeles Avenue West. As crews tried to battle the blaze, it spread to units 74 and 78, said Brampton deputy fire chief Michael Clark.

They finally brought it under control just before 2:00 p.m.

No occupants of the houses were injured in the fire – they all evacuated before fire crews arrived. Their homes, however, were much worse for wear.

"[The damage] is pretty substantial for at least two of the homes. Probably all three of them, I think, will be unoccupied for some time," Deputy Chief Clark said.

Crews have yet to investigate the cause of the fire.
