Pete Doherty: World's Greatest
The career of Pete Doherty came full (squared) circle when the art school graduate and amateur boxer hung up his mitts and devoted himself to photography. A survey of his work documents the sweet science and people who populate the pugilist's world. In conjunction with the exhibit, the nearby Camera lounge is screening three boxing-themed movies, including 1947's Body and Soul (June 1), 1956's Somebody Up There Likes Me (June 8) and 2010's The Fighter (June 15). Kim's Convenience
Unlike a grab-and-go mart that is open 24-7, Kim's Convenience closes occasionally. Ins Choi's play about a Korean-Canadian family who operate a Regent Park corner store is up and running again after its hit run a year ago, but the remounting ends before the month is out. Pop in for whatever you might need, be it social relevancy, touching family drama or snappy sitcom-style laughs. To June 19. $32 to $68. Songbook 7: Madeleine Peyroux
On her new album The Blue Room , the unhurried jazz-star chanteuse Madeleine Peyroux goes A to Z, covering material by composers ranging from Eddy Arnold to Warren Zevon. This evening, in cahoots with savvy Andrew Burashko and his Art of Time ensemble, she'll further expand her repertoire in a program of classical arrangements of pop songs from some of her favourite artists, including Billy Joel, Elvis Presley and the brothers Gershwin. Hidden Gardens and Private Spaces Tour
The usual visitors to these backyard gardens tend to be of the varmint variety – squirrels, raccoons and those impossible opossums. For one day only, visitors are invited to stroll quiet lanes on a self-guided tour that allows access to secret spaces full of plants, flowers and vegetables. Resident gardeners are more than willing to share their inventive solutions to their particular urban challenges, so don't be afraid to make a pest of yourself with garden-related questions. Burger Day
New burger joints are popping up ceaselessly these days, and there's no indication that the beef boom will grind to a halt any time soon. In honour of the cow sandwich craze, 67 restaurants are serving up gulpable slider versions of their best beef-and-bread arrangements at an event that includes a beer tent, musical entertainment and family friendly activities. Condiments are numerous, but for burger lovers, topping this meaty affair is hard to imagine. June 2, 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. $15 to $30 (all you can eat).
