A heavy downpour on Wednesday evening caused localized flooding and transportation problems in Toronto.
Police closed part of the busy north-south Don Valley Parkway shortly after 10 p.m. due to flooding between Bloor St. and the Gardiner Expressway. The highway is operating normally for the morning rush hour.
But GO train service on the Richmond Hill line, which runs along the banks of the Don River, remains affected and trains will only serve the Richmond Hill and Langstaff stations on the line this morning.
The southern stretch of Bayview Road is not expected to reopen until 9am.
The Toronto Transit Commission warned of longer than usual travel times on the Scarborough Rapid Transit line is this morning. Earlier, subway trains were bypassing a station (Lawrence) due to flooding.
The heavy rain had also flooded numerous underpasses and city streets.
Environment Canada had called for 30 to 40 millimetres of rain on Wednesday evening.
There were no immediate reports of any injuries related to the weather but firefighters said they had to rescue at least two stranded motorists from their vehicles stuck in rising water.
