Evangeline Adotey, 6, was found in distress Feb. 3, 2014, at a Toronto hotel and was pronounced dead at hospital.

A Toronto man is charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder in connection with an incident at a hotel that left a six-year-old girl dead and a boy in hospital.

Police say officers who went to an east-end hotel on Monday found a girl in obvious distress.

The girl, identified as Evangeline Adotey, was pronounced dead in hospital.

Police say a boy and a man were also found at the scene – the boy in medical distress – and they were also taken to hospital.

Charged is Jason Adotey, 35, of Toronto, whose next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 12.

The family has asked for privacy.
