A 39-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman were to appear in court Thursday charged with second-degree murder in Toronto's 11th homicide of the year.

The names of the two accused were not immediately released, pending notification of the victim's next-of-kin, suggesting the three people all knew each other.

The body of the 49-year-old victim was discovered Wednesday morning in an apartment on Arbordell Road, near Kipling Avenue and Westhumber Boulevard in the city's west end, after paramedics responded to an emergency call.

An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday but police at the scene suggested the man had been beaten to death inside the apartment.
