Ontario’s provincial police are asking motorists to stay off the Queen Elizabeth Way in the Beamsville area following multiple collisions.
Sgt. Dave Woodford says collision calls were coming in at the rate of about one every two minutes on Thursday afternoon.
Woodford says police are still trying to determine how many collisions have occurred, but says the worst involved 20 vehicle, including a tractor-trailer.
He says there have been minor injuries, but only one person required an ambulance and that person’s injuries were not life-threatening.
Woodford says visibility in the area is zero, but officers were reporting that motorists were “flying” past in spite of the conditions.
He says police are advising motorists to avoid the highway as police try to clear the collisions and that the Toronto-bound lanes are closed in several locations.
