The search for a newborn baby believed to have been murdered in Toronto has spread to British Columbia, but a search by dozens of homicide investigators has failed to turn up the baby's body.
Toronto Police received a call from a hospital last Thursday regarding a woman who had given birth, but the whereabouts of the baby were unknown. Toronto's Homicide Squad took over the investigation and the woman was arrested the next day, according to Toronto Police.
Following up on a lead, B.C.'s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team provided 23 investigators to help search a shipping container, which consisted of clothing and donated articles, that had been sent from Toronto to Surrey by train.
Investigators searched the container, located on a train in the CN railyard, for about four hours, calling off efforts at about 7 p.m. on Monday, said IHIT spokeswoman Sergeant Jennifer Pound. The infant's body was not located.
Angelica Spanidis, 25, of Toronto, is charged with first degree murder. She appeared in court at College Park on Monday.
