Police are urging any witnesses to come forward after a double stabbing in Newmarket, north of Toronto, that left one man dead and another in critical condition.

York Regional Police say officers were called to the scene near Davis Drive and Huron Heights Drive around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday after reports that two people had been stabbed. Two male victims were found.

Police say one of the victims, a 65-year-old Newmarket man, died of his injuries while the second victim remains in hospital.

Investigators say they are looking for three male suspects, and that witnesses reported the suspects may have fled the scene in a dark SUV.

The victims are not being immediately identified as police are still trying to locate next of kin.
