Welcome back to race season, Toronto. This Sunday, more than 12,000 people are expected to take part in the GoodLife Fitness Toronto Marathon. Traffic will be blocked, horns will honk, frustrations will rise – although you might want to consider getting out and cheering on those athletes, who will be raising an estimated $1.5-million for charity. Love them or hate them, marathons don't just happen. Staging the event is a huge logistical challenge. Jay Glassman, the marathon's race director, gives The Globe and Mail the skinny on some of the hidden costs of putting on Sunday's race
