Police have identified two men who died in a small plane crash in Algonquin Provincial Park this week.

Investigators say the pilot, 25-year-old Logesh Lakshmikanthan, and his passenger, 31-year-old Ravindran Arulanandar, both of north Toronto, died from injuries sustained in Tuesday's crash.

They say the crash happened because the plane ran out of fuel.

A spokesman for the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Trenton, Ont., has said the pilot got lost and couldn't find a safe place to land.

Authorities said the pilot of the Cessna 150 had "declared an airborne emergency" Tuesday evening before losing contact with air traffic controllers.

They said the plane had left Buttonville Airport northeast of Toronto and the pilot had intended to return there.
