Toronto police have identified the victim of a homicide that took place Monday.

Christopher Kotsopoulos, 26, was found with an obvious gunshot wound to his chest in a Toronto housing complex near The Queensway and Windermere Avenue, according to Toronto police spokeswoman Constable Wendy Drummond.

Police said they had received a call to the area regarding an assault at 5:20 p.m. When they were en route, they heard gunshots go off.

Toronto EMS spokeswoman Kim McKinnon said that Mr. Kotsopoulos was in “very, very serious” life-threatening condition when paramedics arrived. They transported him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Mr. Kotsopoulos was known to police, said Const. Drummond. Police records show that he was arrested in 2009 for a bank robbery. He was also charged with weapons offences in 2011 after a police chase during which the vehicle Mr. Kotsopoulos was in veered out of control and struck a concrete barrier.
