Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a two-year-old boy in downtown Toronto.

Toronto police Const. Wendy Drummond says police and emergency workers responded to a call at 9:20 a.m. Monday at a home on Ontario Street and that a child was pronounced dead at the scene.

She says the homicide squad is investigating the incident, following normal procedure whenever there's a death of a child under the age of five.

A spokeswoman for Toronto Emergency Medical Services says another child at the same residence was taken to hospital with a non-life-threatening medical condition.

Kim McKinnon says the boy — who is about five years old — had flu-like symptoms but his condition was not serious.

Drummond says no charges have been laid and there were no other immediate details.
