A man in his mid-20s has been rushed to hospital after being stabbed in Toronto's east end.

Officials say the man was stabbed multiple times in the back and was taken to a downtown trauma centre.

Paramedics say his condition is serious but not life-threatening.

Police say the incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday across from Victoria Park station. The man told officers he was stabbed during an attempted robbery.

The Toronto Transit Commission says the stabbing did not occur on its property.

Police are looking for two suspects who were last seen headed south from the scene.
