Standoff on Yonge Street ends with arrest of two men Add to ...

A standoff on a busy Toronto street between police and a man believed to have a gun in his car ended after two hours Tuesday morning.

Police pulled over a black Nissan Altima on Yonge Street at Gerrard Street around 7 a.m. after a woman reported spotting a firearm inside.

A male passenger surrendered, but the driver refused to leave the car. Police, including emergency task force officers, surrounded the vehicle and closed the area to all traffic.

After two hours, the driver finally got out of the car and was arrested without incident. The passenger was also arrested.

Constable Tony Vella said police did not find a gun inside the car. He said officers are searching the street in case a weapon was ditched.

No one was injured.
