Southern Ontario is in for a sizzling week.

Environment Canada has issued humidex warnings covering much of the province, from Windsor in the south to as far north as Sault Ste. Marie and North Bay, as temperatures near 30 C or higher in most areas.

The warning says most of southern Ontario, including Ottawa, Kingston and Toronto, should expect high humidex values reaching 40 to 42 on Monday and continuing to peak above 40 most days this week until Friday.

The weather agency says in areas along the shores of the Great Lakes, values are likely to reach humidex values of 37 to 39.

Toronto's medical officer of health has issued a heat alert for Monday and is warning people to take the proper precautions to protect themselves from the high temperatures.

Environment Canada says the temperature is expected to reach 33 C in Toronto on Monday, with a "very high" UV index of 10.
