Toronto police have charged a math tutor and his fiancée with gang sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl, and are asking any other possible victims to come forward.

Kevin Chan, 32, and his fiancée, Kayla Drumonde, 23, are alleged to have sexually assaulted one of Mr. Chan's students in the summer of 2014.

Police released the work history of Mr. Chan, who has been teaching as a volunteer and a paid employee at schools and in tutoring programs since 2000.

"We're just putting it out there because we know that both of them volunteer in the schools and we know that both of them have access to young boys and girls," said Constable David Hopkinson of the Toronto Police Service.

The alleged victim had sought math tutoring in Grade 5, Constable Hopkinson said. Mr. Chan became her tutor in Grade 6 and taught her through Grade 8. Ms. Drumonde also volunteered at the girl's school, police say.

Mr. Chan and Ms. Drumonde are alleged to have befriended the girl and invited her on "numerous occasions" to their Don Mills home, where they allegedly sexually assaulted her, Constable Hopkinson said.

"Over a period of years, you become close to the people, and I believe [the girl] had been going through some difficulties," he said.

Police could not go into more detail about the charges of gang sexual assault and sexual interference. They could refer to a series of assaults or to a single incident, Constable Hopkinson said.

Ontario's Court of Appeal reaffirmed the laws pertaining to teenagers and sexual consent in a ruling on Tuesday, upholding the blanket ban on sex between minors of ages 14 and 15 and partners older than them by five years or more.

People under 18 also cannot legally consent to sex with anyone in a position of trust or authority.

Since 2000, Mr. Chan has been affiliated with many schools and private tutoring companies, including Avondale Public School from 2005 to 2007, Willowdale Middle School in 2008 and 2009, and the Spirit of Math from 2011 to August, 2014.
