A cameraman for Toronto's Citytv is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car while on the job.

Bill Atanasoff, 58, was crossing Kipling Avenue at mid-block near Albion Road in Toronto's west end when he was struck around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The video journalist sustained "trauma to the body" when he was hit by the front right bumper of a Lincoln Continental, said Constable Tony Vella.

"The pedestrian sustained life threatening-injuries and was taken to hospital," Const. Vella said.

A 68-year-old male was arrested at the scene and transported to a police station for further investigation.

Mr. Atanasoff was taping at the scene of an investigation by the Special Investigations Unit when he was struck.

Citytv said on its website that Mr. Atanasoff was "a long-time veteran at Citytv with 30 years in the field."
