The Al-Jazeera television network has broadcast a film clip of kidnapped Canadian journalist Amanda Lindhout and an Australian colleague.
Ms. Lindhout, a freelance television and print reporter from Sylvan Lake, Alta., and photographer Nigel Brennan, were abducted almost a month ago while on assignment in Somalia.
The Al-Jazeera video shows Lindhout wearing an Arab robe and surrounded by gunmen.
She is shown speaking to the camera but the video's soundtrack was not aired.
Al-Jazeera says the two appeared in the video to appeal to their governments to work for their release.
The Qatar-based TV network says their kidnappers are members of the so-called Mujahedeen of Somalia, which accuses the governments of Australia and Canada of “contributing to the destruction of Somalia.”
The journalists were abducted Aug. 23, along with a Somali journalist acting as their translator, and two Somali guards, while travelling to Elasha, some 20 kilometres southwest of the capital Mogadishu.
Reporters Without Borders in Montreal said earlier this month that the kidnappers had demanded $2.5-million for the release of the three journalists.
