Both these women have immersed themselves in the lives and culture of women in Kandahar, and were eager to share their experiences. They took questions and discussed their work live in an earlier chat you can experience below.

  • Jessica Leeder

    is a national writer for The Globe and Mail and has undertaken two reporting trips to Afghanistan. Since joining the Globe in 2007, Ms. Leeder has been based out of the newspaper's Toronto office, where she writes news and features.
  • Paula Lerner

    is an award winning photojournalist who's work has taken her from the Amazon to Afghanistan. Since 1985, she has been working for magazine clients including Smithsonian, People, Time, Newsweek, and Business Week, in addition to many European and Asian publications. Women's issues have been a recurring theme in her work, and since 2005 she has made five trips to Afghanistan to photograph projects about women in that country. She is currently at work on a long-term project about women in Kandahar.
